Colorful Moods: Ever wonder what makes you in a bad or a good mood? Is it what’s going on in your life, your job, your relationship, your finances…no matter the reason there are external factors that can also contribute to your mood for the day. Have you ever noticed that when you are feeling down or just kind of “blah” you tend to gravitate toward darker colors in your wardrobe? Believe it or not, colors can affect your mood. When you think about it, this only makes sense. If you’re not feeling bright and cheery you probably aren’t going to pick out that neon dress from your closet for the day. And even if the colors you pick aren’t the initial cause of your mood, they can definitely be a contributing factor to how the rest of your day goes! So what do you do on days your feeling down? Or how about days where you feel like it just can’t get any better? Below are a few tips for which colors to reach for and how they might help swing your mood.
1. Feeling down? Your natural inclination will probably draw you to the black or darker color section of your closet. And guess what, there’s nothing wrong with this! However, if you are looking to “turn your frown upside down” then step out of your comfort zone for the day and pick a bright color item for your outfit. Whether it’s a top or just an accessory. A little color can go a long way!
Black is also a color of authority and power. So if you’re feeling powerful or on your way to an interview you just want to nail, then black might just be the color you should turn to!
2. Feeling happy? Keep that mood going for the day with a little bit of color. Or, if you’re looking to subdue yourself a little balance your look out with a dark accessory. But really, when you’re on a high do you want to do anything but keep it going?
3. Looking for inspiration? If you wake up feeling a little bit lost; just trying to find some inspiration for the day, look for some colors that aren’t too bright, but add a little pop to your look. Colors such as shades of blue are perfect for some inspiration. Blue is a calming shade, that will make you feel at ease. Shades of yellow bring the sunshine. Yellow is the color of optimism!
You see, we all thought the mood ring was a gimmick. Just a marketing tool to make money. But was it really? The idea that your mood could be predicted by the changing colors of a mood ring might not be all that realistic, but, the idea that colors can effect your mood is proven to be true. So what color are you going to pick today?
