How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated During Summer

Summer is finally here. And it means going to the beach, vacations, the heat, and dry skin. If you plan to go to the beach and show more skin, you must be prepared to face the sun and keep your skin hydrated.

The skin makes up 15% of the body weight. It is made up of 70% water, 25% protein, and 2% lipids. Skin cells have chemicals called Natural Moisturizing Factor, which hydrates the skin and keeps its balance. Since the skin is made out mostly of water, hydrating it is very important.

Some of the major factors that lead to dehydration of the skin are high temperature, humidity, Intense UV rays, and more. These factors are all present during the summer.

To protect your skin from dehydration during the summer, here are some guidelines you can follow:

Drink Water

To keep your skin hydrated, you have to hydrate yourself by simply drinking plenty of water. Your body needs 64 ounces of water a day. Drink a full glass of water first thing in the morning, every before meal, and before you go to bed. Remember, 64 ounces is half a gallon of water. In the summer, you will sweat more because of the heat. It means, you may have to drink more water than you usually do. If you find it hard drinking water benefits , mix it to a little bit of lemon or lime.

Eat Fruits

There may be a lot of tropical fruits and fruit drinks in the beach where you will spend your summer at. That is good news for your skin. Fruits are great sources of water for your body. Fruits also provide a lot of vitamin C, which your skin needs for hydration. Try eating Coconuts, Mangoes, Walnuts, Blueberries, Pumpkins and Avocado.

Eat Vegetables

Just like fruits, green leafy vegetables are also rich in fiber, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. These foods are also rich in fluid content. This fluid content from fruits and vegetables are absorbed by the skin faster than when you drink water.

Skin Care Products

Ask the local health professionals about the right products that will keep your skin hydrated. Sunscreen, exfoliating, and hydrating marks are very important to avoid getting your skin dry during the summer. Some of the ingredients that your skin care products should have are Hyaluronic Acid, Bark Extracts, Vitamin E, and Aloe.

Wash Up

Before you sleep, make sure you wash up all the buildups from the skin care products and other elements during your stay at the beach. This will help your skin relax and rehydrate. Don’t use soaps that have harsh ingredients.

 Moisturizing Your Skin

Moisturizing helps you get that great-looking skin. It helps you retain water for you skin and prevent dryness. Hyaluronic acid helps rejuvenate the skin by retaining moisture and regulating repair process. It has 1,000 times its weight in water, which means hyaluronic acid is a super moisturizer. Remember, water-based products are best during the morning.

Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliate your skin two to three times a week during the summer. You can buy exfoliating products at the store, or you can make one at home. Try using 4 to 5 tbsp of gram flour, about a pinch of turmeric powder, 5 drops of rose water, and milk. Mix them up until they turn into paste and exfoliate your face using it.

Use the right Soap

Heavily scented soaps are usually harsh on the skin, since it can take out its natural oils. It can also strengthen the drying process of the skin. Use mild fragrant-free soap instead to keep your skin hydrated.

Increase Supplement Intake

Supplements can protect your skin from the harsh sun ray and they promote moisture and elasticity to the skin. These supplements should have vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc, and selenium.

Protect Your Skin with Sunscreen

Use sunscreen lotion every-day to protect your skin from the sun. Choose the one that has SPF 15 and higher. It should be capable to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays. If you have fairer ski, you should use sunscreen with SPF 30. Make sure you apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before you leave the house and go under the heat of the sun. After sweating from exercise or from swimming, reapply sunscreen.

 Avoid Alcohol

You may party at the beach, but if you want to keep your skin hydrated, stay away from the alcohol. It will lead to dehydration to your body, and eventually to your skin. This is true to caffeinated drinks and sugary juices.

Avoid Too Much Sodium

Salty food will draw water from the body, leading to dehydration. Stay away from junk foods, processed foods, frozen pizza, canned foods, and processed meat.
